Children, being “fearfully and wonderfully made,” depend on their parents to help them know who they truly are. Parents cannot remind their children often enough of their unique identity and design, their priceless value as persons uniquely created by God, and the exciting and glorious plan God has for them in the Kingdom.
As children grow up, parents are obliged to discover the special design God has placed into each of them. One child is clearly physical and athletic—why has God designed her that way? Is she to be a dancer? Another child is always building things with Lego—is he a future engineer or project manager? A third loves to talk about how she sees everything in terms of characters in stories. Is this a future writer?
The more confident parents are about their child’s design, the better they will be able to direct that child in the “way he should go,” in those ways that align with God’s plan for them.
Parents must always remember that God has a definite purpose for their children. As parents come into alignment with that purpose, the Lord will make provision for it to happen. He will always back education that matches His design for our children.
He will bless and affirm the direction He intends for them to have. The dancer will have the resources to take lessons. The engineer will receive the scholarship, because that is God’s plan for him. The writer will attend precisely the right University and have the finances for it. Why? Because God will always back up the design He gave them. He will provide for the children to become the people He desires.
This knowledge should be wonderfully freeing for parents. They do not have to fear low standardized test scores, or not getting into the right schools, or even finding the right schools. All that is God’s work. The parents’ duty is simply to remain close to Him, obey His commands, and be keenly aware of God’s unique design and purpose for their children at each stage of their development.
